Whether in the studio, at your home or in a location of your choice it is important to create the perfect environment for your baby photography session. If the baby is comfortable and relaxed, the photos will be awesome!
What helps with creating the perfect environment? Relaxed parents - don't stress about how it will go or what bubs may or may not do, leave it up to me, I take time to get bubs settled by playing around and gaining confidence before photographing.
I interact with them from behind the camera, playing around with funny sounds and faces to make them smile and giggle. This is an easy and fun way to get different expressions from your baby whilst gaining their confidence. You can also use props or wave toys around out of shot. If your child is older then a little treat may go a long way!
Bring props that have special meanings, whether it’s that all-important security blanket or that much-loved teddy bear, it will help them immensely especially if they are not in their own surroundings.
When dressing your baby for the session, remember to consider complimentary colours and textures that don’t distract from the baby. If more than one baby then it’s also important to ensure their outfits compliment one another. Dress them comfortably and always bring something warm to take on and off in between so they remain happy, this last part is more important for outside sessions.
If I'm coming to your home, I will need as much space as possible to move around freely, tiny tots are going to be on the move for much of the shoot, so make sure they have space to crawl around. I prefer natural light so wherever possible, somewhere with lots of windows would be ideal. However, I am fully equipped with lighting should you not have a natural light space.
Natural photography is my style and I don't use a lot, if any props, it's really important not to take away from what I'm photographing, which is beautiful little people. You don't want to overpower the children, you want them to be the main focus of the image.
Safety is extremely important to me and I will never risk any child to get the perfect shot. With baby photography and child photography it helps when the parents stick around and be a spotter or are even in the shot just holding them, I can remove you from the shot later.
If you are unsure of where to do the session or have further questions then feel free to give me a call or drop me an email, we can discuss further and find the perfect place that suits you and your child/ren to create memories that will last a lifetime.
